World XC in Edinburgh - US Senior Men's Preview
Published by
So, in three weeks the US team leaves for Scotland, in four weeks we run. For glory? maybe. I hope so. We've got a talented team going. Possibly one of the strongest in recent history. Is a medal an option, well, not out of the question. Sure it will be difficult but it might be doable. We've got to run one hell of a race to do it. To add it all up...Ritz is probably the US's best cross runner, and very good at this course. Losing to Bekele (thats K. Bekele) by 14 sec in Edinburgh in January...The Torres brothers are both tremendous XC runners demonstrated by basically every championship XC race they've run...Rohatinsky won the 2006 NCAA Div I XC Title...Ed Moran has been a two-time XC NCAA All-American has a strong XC background and ran 13:25 5000m...James Carney has been good on the roads, winning the USA Half Champs and ran 27:43 10k last year, can't be too shabby on an XC course...Ryan Bak is a tough strong runner that will be well suited to a difficult course...Scott Bauhs, well he's a fast young runner that definitely won't have any fear running against the best in the world. But I believe to our advantage will be the weather and the course. The men just mentioned are exceptional cross runners on difficult courses and will be very effective in the mud and hills of Holyrood Park. To top that off it should be about 45 degrees, while not an advantage to anyone, it will be a larger disadvantage to key countries like Kenya, who are used to a warmer environment. |
